Little Guy or Little Lady...

That's right, Josh and I went for our first ultrasound of Baby Applegate last Monday. We hit that glorious 20 week mark allowing for us to see our precious little one! One thing people fail to tell you about that first ultrasound is how much water you have to drink before you get to the appointment. They want you to have a full bladder so the baby is pushed forward, allowing for better pictures. Josh will tell you that drinking 40 oz of water is no big deal for me, but what I had forgotten was how getting nervous makes you have to go to the bathroom. Needless to say, a full bladder and a nervous/excited momma made for an entertaining ride on the way to the appointment.

There are almost no words to explain how incredible it is to see your baby for the first time. Staring at the monitor and watching the baby's arms and legs move is so surreal! I could not believe how much the baby was moving, considering the fact that I haven't felt any movement and I was currently at 20 weeks. The woman doing our ultrasound explained that my placenta is located at the front of my belly, so whenever the baby kicks, I don't feel anything because the movement is not strong enough for me to feel through the placenta. What a relief! Watching our little one move for the entire hour made me realize once those dance moves become strong enough... I'll be feeling this little one all the time!

After our technician finished taking some basic pictures and taking a few measurements, she began looking for whether we had a little guy or a little lady on the way. Josh's first reaction was asking about the umbilical cord, she quickly clarified that those were not 'little boy parts' we laughed and she kept looking. It didn't take long after that for her to find the three little bones that make up the labia... she looked at us and announced that we have a little girl! We just laughed out of pure joy and I definitely teared up because the two of us felt such overwhelming love for our daughter. We spent the next 30 minutes watching her move, yawn, wave, and dance. I'm telling you, this little gal is going to be all smiles and a bundle of joy! After watching how she responded this morning, I think she is going to like being in front of the camera as well :)

All in all it was one of the most wonderful days of my life. Holding Josh's hand and finding out together that God has blessed us with a little girl is a moment I will treasure in my heart forever. To quote Josh while looking at our little girl, "I'm falling in love all over again."

Love,
Josh, Lisa, and Little Lady Apples

Our Little Lady!
Perfect little foot, complete with all 5 toes
according to the technician, she already has chubby cheeks!

Just waving to say 'hello'!

It's hard to tell, but on the right you see her head, and on the left you see her little legs crossed at the ankle..such a lady :)
